International Day of Clean Air

Not such a headline grabbing day as many of the others I've featured here but an important one all the same.

Today, as many as nine out of ten people breathe polluted air, leading to some 7 million premature deaths each year, of whom 600,000 are children. (Full story)

During last year's lockdown when travel was reduced so much so many places were freed of the air pollution usually suffered. One of those places is Barcelona.

On a bad day on the journey into Barcelona you can literally see the cloud of pollution over the city. Naturally the city council is working to improve this. One of the ways they are doing this is restricting traffic in the centre. To be able to enter your car must now have a suitable sticker displayed in the windscreen. This was one of the reasons I changed my car earlier this year - my old car was too old and diesel and couldn't get authorisation.

Last year there were many photos of Barcelona showing the huge difference the lack of traffic had on the skies above the city
