Biegel Day
There's some kind of Biegel energy in the air of late. Last week I was talking about them with my great friend Alberto, then a couple of days later a Biegel recipe popped up on my FB timeline, (were they listening) and now this has appeared too.
Although Biegel day has only been going since the early 2000s Biegels have a much longer history.
It was said that a German noble person asked his baker to make a boiled bread in the shape of a stirrup, which apparently is bügel in German, thus the name. However the biegels came out more like rings but the name stuck.
Biegel is the original spelling of what is now often written bagel these days.
How do you like your bagels? Plain? With seeds? With a filling? Or just plain?
