Almendras

In Spanish almendras, in English almonds.

Spain is the second-largest almond producer in the world after the United States (over 40% annually) and relies on Andalucia, Valencia anda Catalunya as its main producing regions.

All around Vilanova in spring you can see the almond trees in blossom, being the first to display it's delicate pink blooms. And at this time of year the fruit is visible, but not quite ripe yet.

Almonds are becoming increasingly popular and demand is booming.  They are used as dairy and wheat alternatives and are used in almond milk, alond flour, in cooking and as healthy snacks. Strictly speaking, however, almonds are not a nut but a fruit similar to a peach..I bet you didn't know that!
