Vilanova has a great Municipal market, open all week with stalls selling a whole range of produce. From fresh veggies and fruits to meat fresh from the farms. For vegetarians there is even a frozen food stall that sells veggie burgers, veggie frankfurters and veggie meatballs amongst other things.
On Saturdays the market is much extended and takes over the whole area around the market building, in the streets and market square. more recently there have even been stalls on the Rambla selling local 'artisan' products.
The Saturday market sells more than just fruit and veg with clothes, shoes and accessories thrown into the mix. I would warn that some of the stuff on sales is a bit of a 'jumble-sale' but the fruit and veg is excellent. Just his morning I have been and filled a large shopping bag - all for a little over five euros.
While a few of the younger stall-workers do speak a little English but most will not venture past Spanish or Catalan, so be prepared for inventive communication if your Spanish / catalan is very limited. They are usually happy to help and understand.
Another thing to be aware of is the shopping trolleys. It seems every granny with a trolley is out on a Saturday morning and few of them have any spatial awareness. Sandaled toes need monitoring!!!
