Vilanova i la Geltru is a wonderful place within which to spend some time quietly wandering. There are three special walking routes as outlined by the City's tourist office, but so much more to see if you take a step or two off the beaten track.

RAILWAY MUSEUM. 
For railway enthusiasts, and children alike the Railway Museum, beside the city's main station is a must. 

TORRE BLAVA

Located on the Passeig Maritime the Torre Blava is an interesting museum with three floors of very different ideas, all linked to the Sea.
Only open mid-June to Mid-September (Outside this special visits can be arranged)

ADARRÓ
At the far end of the Passeig Maritime you can find the Adarró ruins, believed to be an early settlement from the 5th to the 1st century B.C. 

ROMANTIC MUSEUM OF CAN PAPIOL

..is located in the historic centre of Vilanova. It is a 19th century house originally owned by one of the most influential families in the village of the time. 

Sumptuous and luxurious fixtures and fittings contrast with the basic servants quarters, and the magnificent garden

VICTOR BALAGUER MUSEUM

From mummies to exquisite art the Balaguer museum has it all including paintings by El Greco, Ribera and Rubens, and is free on Thursday evenings and the first Sunday of every month.

All around and within easy travelling distances from Vilanova i la Geltru  there are other towns and cities well worth a visit, as well as many other sites and places of interest. Truly there is something for everyone. 

 

 

Barcelona

Just a short journey by car, train or bus. Packed with world-famous sites like La Sagrada Familia, la Pedrera, Park Guell, Casa Batllo, FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou and so many more.

Tarragona

Tarragona is a World Heritage City where you can find the amazing amphitheatre dating back to the Roman Empire, alongside a wealth of other interesting sights. 

Sitges

Sitges is just a short trip up the coast , one train stop or a 10 minute car journey away. Originally a fishing village it still retains much of its charm, which exists alongside up-to-the-minute tourism. Its nightlife is legendary, and its Carnaval processions and Corpus Christi displays really shouldn't be missed. 

Montserrat

This world-famous monastery is built into the dramatic mountains that provide a stunning backdrop. High above Barcelona the views are stunning, as is the monastry itself. 

Port Aventura

Made up of six worlds filled with surprises PortAventura Park is a place to let off steam and have fun. In each of the themed zones there are a wide range of attractions. Fun, for all ages and tastes.

Accessible from Vilanova by train, bus or car. 

Freixenet & Cordoniu Cava Tours

Around 25kms away in Sant Sadurni D'anoia are the Cava houses of Freixenet and Cordoniu, as well as a variety of others. 
Each provides interesting guided tours of their cellars (in a range of languages) which finish with a glass of the house Cava. 
For afficionados of the sparkling nectar a visit here is nothing short of a pilgrimage. 

Garraf Natural Park

The natural park of the Garraf runs along the Catalunya coast and stretches inland covering over 12,820 hectares. Wild and beautiful it is crossed by well signed walking and cycle routes. 

The Palau Novella, in the heart of the Garraf, is home to Catalonia's first Buddhist monastery where guided tours are available throughout the year. 

SPORTING ACTIVITIES

Both in and around Vilanova there are a host of sporting activities from Local gyms and swimming pools to Hiking or mountain climbing in the local countryside.

Football is very popular in Catalunya - FC Barcelona being the most popular team,

as is basketball, handball and paddel.

The beaches are laid out with exercise tracks, or each morning on the Ribes Roges Beach there is a Tai Chi class, all for free. Watersports like kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving etc are all locally available. 

Sitges has a well-known golf course which is just minutes away up the coast.

In Barcelona there is the famous Formula One track,

and of course the Vuelta (Cycling Tour d'España) often passes through, or nearby.
